Barriers & Barricades 8-9 February 2025 Harrells, NC
The Barriers & Barricades (B&B) class focuses on the use of cover and concealment, as well as managing visual barriers and “tracking” your target through them. This is a pistol and rifle/ carbine class, though if you don’t have or don’t want to use your pistol you can bring extra ammo for your rifle/ carbine and get the reps in.
This is a fast paced class involving movement about the range during live fire drills. It is not recommended if you are very new to shooting, or if you have never done any movement training with your firearms. However, there is no training barrier for this class; attend if you believe you are capable of safe and smart handling of your firearm and let MTS help you with your movement.
Day 1 will begin with pistol (or substitute carbine) work and followed by carbine work for the first couple hours just to tune up fundamentals and improve manual of arms. We will then progress into some basic movement drills and static use of barricades to prepare for the afternoon. After the lunch break students will conduct multiple drills incorporating movement around barricades and dealing with the visual barriers they will present. Students will be able to conduct these drills with both weapons, or get “extra” reps if choosing carbine only. The goal is not to become proficient at the drills, the goal is to become proficient with your marksmanship, movement, and manual of arms; understanding how to use cover & concealment to your advantage in the close quarters environment.
Day 2 will begin with dry practice of firing positions and how to load into barricades to use them for support; focusing on mid-range engagements rather than close range. Before we go live, students will have an opportunity to check their zeroes at close range, and the first drills will be 100 yard checks to make sure everyone is dialed in before beginning drills in earnest. Day 2 will be a slower pace for live fire, and so there will be a dry practice station established to practice skills from Day 1 and minimize down time. Because of the slower pace and later start of Day 2, we will have a “working lunch” and students will be expected to bring their food and eat in between their reps.
Both days will finish up between 3 - 4PM; Day 1 will begin at 7:30AM and Day 2 at 10AM (going live at 12PM due to local noise ordnance restrictions). Students will receive a final confirmation email with range coordinates, timeline updates, weather, and other logistic reminders one week before the start date.
